Volunteer Q&A

What qualifications

do I need to volunteer?

The only requirement to volunteer with SMCC is that you are over the age of 18. An interest in law, social work, and/or helping others might help too!

How long can I volunteer?

We prefer that volunteers commit to working with us for at least a semester's length of time, around 3-4 months. However, if you can't commit to that length of time, we would still love to have you and are happy to have the help.

When can I volunteer?

SMCC, like any court, runs all year. This means that we need volunteers in Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer! Feel free to sign up at any time.

How do I become a volunteer?

To become a volunteer with us all you have to do is complete our online orientation course (see the "Sign Up" page to access it), and then email us expressing your interest in whichever position(s) you like. If we have openings for the position, then we will get back to you with further information and scheduling logistics.

What if the position I want is unavailable?

After you complete our orientation and contact us about volunteering, if the position you want is currently filled, we will let you know and give you other options. If those don't work for you, then we can add you to a list of people to contact when the position opens up.

If you have further questions, feel free to contact us at the emails listed below!
